Surah Ibrahim — Verse 42

• Ghāfilan (غَافِلًا): Negligent, heedless, or unaware of something.

Explanation of the Verse:

O Messenger, do not ever think that Allah is unaware or heedless of what the wrongdoers do. He sees every act of injustice, every lie, every harm they inflict upon the believers, and every sin they commit — nothing is hidden from Him. His knowledge encompasses all things, and His justice is perfect.

The delay in their punishment is not a sign of neglect; rather, it is a deliberate and wise postponement. Allah is giving them respite, but He has appointed for them a Day that is terrifying beyond imagination — the Day of Resurrection. On that Day, their eyes will be fixed open, staring in sheer horror at what they witness, unable to blink or look away. The overwhelming terror of that moment will seize them, and they will finally realize that no deed went unnoticed and no wrongdoer escaped accountability.

This verse brings great comfort to the oppressed and the believers. It reassures them that their patience is not in vain, and that the One who sees all will surely settle every account. For the wrongdoer, it is a stern warning: the delay is not forgiveness, but a waiting period before a punishment that will make all worldly power and arrogance seem utterly insignificant.

So take heart, O believer — Allah is never unmindful. His justice may be delayed, but it is never absent. And when that Day comes, every eye will be fixed, every heart will tremble, and every soul will reap exactly what it has sown. Let this truth fill your heart with hope in Allah’s justice, and let it inspire you to remain steadfast on the path of righteousness, for the final victory belongs to those who fear Allah and do good.
