Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Rawaasi (رَوَاسِيَ): Firm, immovable mountains that stabilize the earth.
  • Tamida (تَمِيدَ): To sway, shake, or tilt.
  • Anhaar (أَنْهَارًا): Rivers and streams.
  • Subul (سُبُلًا): Roads, pathways, and routes.
  • Tahtadoon (تَهْتَدُونَ): To be guided, to find your way, and to reach your intended destinations.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this profound verse, Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) draws our attention to His magnificent design of the earth — a design that reflects His infinite mercy and wisdom toward His creation. He says that He has "cast upon the earth firm mountains" — massive, stable structures that act as anchors, preventing the earth from swaying and shaking beneath your feet. Imagine living on a planet that constantly trembled and tilted — life would be impossible. Yet, by His grace, Allah has stabilized the earth with these towering mountains, granting you a secure and peaceful dwelling place.

Furthermore, Allah mentions that He has placed rivers upon the earth — flowing sources of fresh water that quench your thirst, irrigate your crops, and sustain your livestock. These rivers are not merely geographical features; they are living signs of Allah's provision and care for every creature on this planet.

And He has also made subul — roads and pathways — so that you may travel from one place to another, reach your destinations, and conduct your affairs with ease. These pathways connect communities, facilitate trade, and enable you to fulfill your needs.

The verse concludes with the purpose: "so that you may be guided" (la'allakum tahtadoon). This guidance is twofold: first, that you may find your physical way through the roads and landmarks He has placed, and second — and more importantly — that you may reflect upon these signs and be guided to recognize your Creator, His power, and His boundless mercy. When you see a mountain standing firm, a river flowing gently, or a road stretching before you, let it remind you of the One who designed it all — and let that recognition draw you closer to Him in gratitude and worship.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, pause for a moment and contemplate: Who placed those mountains to hold the earth steady? Who carved those rivers to bring life to barren lands? Who laid those roads to guide you on your journeys? It is Allah — the Most Merciful, the Most Wise — who has prepared this world for you as a hospitable home long before you even arrived. Every step you take on this earth, every sip of water you drink, every road you travel is a gift from Him.

This verse invites you to open your eyes and heart to the Creator's signs. If you can trust a road to lead you to your destination, how much more should you trust the One who created that road and everything around it? Let the stability of the mountains remind you of Allah's constancy, let the rivers remind you of His flowing mercy, and let the roads remind you that He has shown you the way — not only to your worldly goals, but to His eternal pleasure.

So, turn to Him with a grateful heart, and let His signs guide you to the ultimate success — the recognition of your Lord and the peace that comes with submitting to Him. Indeed, in every mountain, river, and road lies a message of love and guidance from your Creator.

📜 Verse 13-17 — An-Nahl

And [He has subjected] whatever He multiplied for you on the earth of varying colors. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who remember.
And it is He who subjected the sea for you to eat from it tender meat and to extract from it ornaments which you wear. And you see the ships plowing through it, and [He subjected it] that you may seek of His bounty; and perhaps you will be grateful.
And He has cast into the earth firmly set mountains, lest it shift with you, and [made] rivers and roads, that you may be guided,
And landmarks. And by the stars they are [also] guided.
Then is He who creates like one who does not create? So will you not be reminded?
