Explanation of the Verse:
This verse presents a profound and decisive question that strikes at the very heart of logic and reason. Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) asks: "Is the One who creates — the One who brought the heavens and the earth into existence, who fashioned the sun, the moon, the stars, who created you, O human being, from a drop of fluid, and who sustains every living creature — is He equal to those who create nothing at all?"
The idols and false deities that people worship are themselves created, carved from stone or wood, incapable of bringing even a single grain of sand into being, let alone a universe. They cannot benefit nor harm, they cannot give life nor cause death, and they are utterly powerless. So how can anyone, in sound mind, equate the Creator of all things with those who cannot create even the smallest of things?
The verse concludes with a gentle yet powerful call to consciousness: "Will you not then remember?" This is an invitation to every human being to awaken their innate intellect and natural disposition (fitrah) — to reflect upon the wonders of creation, from the intricate design of a single cell to the vastness of the galaxies, and to realize that the One who created all of this is alone worthy of worship, love, and obedience.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, pause for a moment and look around you. Look at the sky above, the earth beneath your feet, and the very breath you take. Every single thing you see is a sign pointing to its Creator. The One who made you, who hears your silent prayers, who knows your deepest secrets, and who provides for you every single day — He is the only One deserving of your devotion.
The idols of the past were stones and statues, but today, many people worship other things: wealth, status, desires, or their own egos. Yet none of these can create anything, and none can save you on the Day when you stand before your Lord. So let this verse awaken your heart. Turn to Allah, the Creator, the Sustainer, the Most Merciful. He is calling you to remember Him, to worship Him alone, and to find true peace in His remembrance. Will you not reflect? Will you not return to your Lord?
