Tafsir (Explanation):
These idols that people worship besides Allah are utterly dead—lifeless objects with no spark of life in them whatsoever. Unlike seeds, eggs, or other things that may carry the potential for life, these statues and carved stones will never come to life, nor will they ever be revived. They are not merely inanimate; they are permanently devoid of any existence that could bring about movement, growth, or awareness.
Moreover, these idols possess no perception or knowledge whatsoever. They do not even know when they will be resurrected alongside their worshippers on the Day of Judgment. On that awesome Day, they will be gathered together with those who adored them, and both the worshippers and the worshipped will be cast into the blazing Fire of Hell—a fate that the idols themselves could never foresee or warn their followers about, for they are completely unaware of the Hour.
This verse serves as a powerful reminder of the utter futility of placing one’s trust in anything other than Allah. How can a rational person bow down to a creation that cannot even sense its own destiny? The idols cannot hear your prayers, cannot see your devotion, cannot help you in times of need, and cannot even anticipate their own end. Yet Allah, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining, hears every whisper, sees every tear, and knows the exact moment of every resurrection. He is the One who gives life and causes death, and He alone deserves your worship, your love, and your complete submission.
Let this verse awaken your heart: if you place your hope in Allah, you are placing it in the One who never dies and never fails. But if you place your hope in anything else—be it wealth, status, or even a stone carved by human hands—you are clinging to something that is dead, unaware, and utterly powerless. Choose the Living God, and you will never be disappointed.
