Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Haqq (الحق): The truth, meaning Islam and everything it brings of guidance, justice, and monotheism.
- Zahaqa (زهق): To perish, vanish, or fade away completely.
- Al-Batil (الباطل): Falsehood, meaning disbelief, polytheism, and all forms of corruption and misguidance.
- Zahuqan (زهوقًا): Inevitably vanishing, destined to disappear and never endure.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Prophet, declare to the polytheists and to all of humanity with certainty and confidence: "The truth has come, and falsehood has vanished!" This is a decisive proclamation that Islam has arrived with its light, guidance, and divine justice, while disbelief, polytheism, and every form of falsehood have been defeated and wiped out. When the truth of Allah appears in its full glory, falsehood cannot stand before it—it dissipates like darkness before the dawn or foam upon the surface of water. Allah affirms that falsehood is inherently transient and fragile; it has no staying power, no foundation, and no ultimate victory. Its end is inevitable destruction, while the truth remains firm, established, and everlasting.
This verse was revealed in the context of the conquest of Makkah, when the Prophet ﷺ entered the Kaaba and destroyed the idols, reciting this very verse. It is a timeless principle: whenever the truth of Allah is established—whether in hearts, societies, or the world at large—falsehood collapses. The believer must hold firm to this certainty, knowing that no matter how powerful falsehood may appear temporarily, its fate is sealed. The truth of Allah, His religion, and His promise of victory are eternal and unshakable.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, this verse carries a profound and hopeful message for every believer. It reassures you that no matter how overwhelming falsehood may seem in your time—whether it be oppression, corruption, or widespread disbelief—its end is already decreed. Falsehood is like a bubble that bursts, while the truth is like the ocean that remains. So hold fast to your faith, stand firm upon the truth, and never despair. Allah has promised that the truth will prevail, and His promise is true. Let this verse fill your heart with courage and certainty, and let it inspire you to be a carrier of that truth in your words, actions, and character. For when you align yourself with the truth, you align yourself with the eternal victory of Allah—and nothing can stand against that.
