Word Meanings:
- Shifā’ (شِفَاء): Healing or cure — referring to the remedy for spiritual ailments such as doubt, hypocrisy, and ignorance.
- Rahmah (رَحْمَة): Mercy — the divine compassion and blessing that brings about goodness and salvation.
- Khasār (خَسَار): Loss, ruin, or destruction — a state of deprivation and failure.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this profound verse, Allah Almighty declares that He sends down the Qur’an as a comprehensive healing and a boundless mercy for the believers. The Qur’an is a cure for the hearts, purifying them from the diseases of doubt, hypocrisy, polytheism, and ignorance. It replaces confusion with certainty, darkness with light, and despair with hope. Moreover, it is a means of healing for the bodies, as it is permissible to seek cure through its blessed recitation over the sick, by the will of Allah. For those who believe and act upon its guidance, the Qur’an becomes a source of divine mercy, drawing them closer to their Lord and granting them success in this life and the Hereafter.
Yet, the same Qur’an that brings life to the believers becomes a cause of increased loss and ruin for the wrongdoers — those who persist in oppression and disbelief. When they hear its verses, their hearts harden further, their arrogance grows, and they respond with greater rejection and hostility. This is not a flaw in the Qur’an, but rather a reflection of their own corrupted state, just as the same rain that revives fertile soil only increases the barren land in desolation.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, ponder the beauty of this divine gift! The Qur’an is not merely a book to be read; it is a living remedy for every ailment of the soul. Are you troubled by anxiety, overwhelmed by sin, or lost in confusion? Turn to the Qur’an, and you will find solace, guidance, and light. It is the mercy of your Lord, sent to you out of His infinite love, to lift you from the darkness of ignorance into the radiance of faith. Do not let this treasure pass you by — embrace it with a sincere heart, recite it with reflection, and act upon its commands. For in it lies your healing, your peace, and your ultimate success. And beware of the fate of those who reject it, for their loss is truly great. Choose today to be among the believers who find in the Qur’an their cure and their mercy, and you will taste a joy that no worldly pleasure can ever match.
