Explanation of the Verse:
In this verse, Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) continues to describe the blessings Allah bestowed upon him from his birth. He declares: *"And He has made me dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me arrogant or wretched."*
This means that Allah, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, instilled in Jesus a profound sense of compassion and devotion toward his mother, Maryam (peace be upon her). He was gentle, loving, and ever-caring toward her, never causing her pain or hardship. At the same time, Allah protected him from two destructive traits: arrogance and wretchedness. He was not a tyrant who looked down on others or rejected the truth, nor was he disobedient to his Lord. Instead, he was humble, obedient, and devoted to Allah's commands.
This verse beautifully highlights the connection between honoring one's parents and remaining steadfast in obedience to Allah. True righteousness begins at home—with kindness to those who raised us—and extends upward to our Creator. A person who is humble before Allah will naturally be gentle and loving toward others, especially their parents.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on this profound teaching from Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him). He was a noble prophet, yet his character was marked by humility and compassion, not pride or rebellion. This is the essence of Islamic character: to be a servant of Allah who treats every soul with dignity, beginning with one's own parents.
If you desire true success and happiness in this life and the next, then look to this example. Be dutiful to your parents, for their pleasure is a gateway to Allah's pleasure. Avoid arrogance, for it is the root of all evil, and shun disobedience, for it leads to misery. Instead, embrace humility, kindness, and devotion—these are the keys to a blessed life. Allah loves those who are humble and righteous, and He promises them His mercy and eternal reward. Let this verse inspire you to be a source of goodness to your family and a beloved servant to your Lord.
