Surah Maryam — Verse 84

• لَا تَعْجَلْ – Do not be hasty or impatient.
• عَلَيْهِمْ – Against them (the disbelievers).
• نَعُدُّ – We count/reckon precisely.
• عَدًّا – A complete, exact counting with no omission or delay.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O Messenger, do not be impatient in seeking the punishment of these disbelievers, nor let their apparent prosperity and delay in punishment disturb your heart. Allah is not heedless of them for a single moment. Rather, He is counting their breaths, their lifespans, and their deeds with perfect precision—every heartbeat, every word, every action is recorded and numbered. This counting is so exact that not a single moment is added to their appointed time, nor is a single moment taken away from it. When their allotted term reaches its final point, Allah will seize them with a punishment that matches their deeds, leaving them no escape and no delay.

This verse carries a profound reassurance: the apparent success of the disbelievers is but a temporary respite, not a sign of Allah's pleasure. The One who counts every breath knows exactly when the time of account will come. So be patient, for the justice of Allah is certain and His timing is perfect. The delay is not neglect—it is part of a divine plan that unfolds with absolute wisdom.

A Da'wah Reflection:

How comforting it is for the believer to know that nothing in this universe escapes Allah's knowledge and reckoning! The tyrant may seem to flourish, and the oppressor may seem to prosper, but every single day they live is a day counted, every breath they take is a breath numbered. This should fill the believer's heart with tranquility and trust in Allah's justice. It also serves as a warning to those who persist in disbelief: your time is limited, and every moment you spend in disobedience is being recorded against you. Turn back to your Lord before the count reaches its end, for when the final number is reached, there will be no second chance. The door of repentance is open now—do not wait until it is closed forever.
