Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- الْحَقُّ (Al-Haqq): The absolute truth, that which is firm, established, and in complete accordance with reality.
- مِن رَّبِّكَ (Min Rabbik): From your Lord — the source of this truth is Allah alone, the Creator and Sustainer of all that exists.
- الْمُمْتَرِينَ (Al-Mumtareen): Those who doubt, who are uncertain, or who harbor skepticism and hesitation in their hearts regarding something that is undeniably true.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse delivers a profound and decisive message: "The truth is from your Lord, so never be among those who doubt."
The "truth" referred to here encompasses everything that has been revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) — the Qur'an, the divine guidance, the news of the unseen, the promises of reward and punishment, and the entirety of the Islamic message. All of this comes from Allah alone, and because its source is Allah — who is perfect in knowledge, wisdom, and truthfulness — it is absolute and unshakable truth. There is no room for falsehood in it, nor can any doubt penetrate it.
Although this address is directed to the Prophet (peace be upon him), its purpose is to affirm and strengthen his certainty, and by extension, to teach the entire Muslim nation a lesson: if the Prophet himself — who received direct revelation — is instructed to remain firm and free from doubt, then how much more incumbent is it upon us, as believers, to hold fast to certainty and to distance ourselves from any form of hesitation regarding Allah's promises and His revelation?
The command "so never be among those who doubt" is not merely a prohibition of outward doubt; it is a call to purify the heart from any lingering uncertainty. A believer's heart should be firmly anchored in the truth of Allah's words, trusting completely in His wisdom and His promises — whether those promises relate to victory for the righteous, provision for the believers, or the ultimate justice of the Hereafter.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse carries a beautiful and empowering message for every seeker of truth. It tells you that you do not need to search endlessly for truth in a world full of conflicting ideas and philosophies — because the truth has already been revealed to you from your Lord. It is clear, complete, and preserved. When you hold onto this truth with certainty, your heart finds peace, your mind finds clarity, and your life finds purpose.
Doubt is a heavy burden that robs the soul of tranquility. But certainty in Allah's word liberates you — it gives you strength in times of hardship, patience in times of trial, and hope in times of despair. So let your heart be firm upon this truth, and let your actions reflect it. For when you truly believe that what Allah has revealed is the truth, you will live with confidence, face challenges with resilience, and meet your Lord with a heart that never wavered.
This is the beauty of Islam: it does not leave you in confusion, but guides you to the straight path with certainty and light. Embrace it with a sincere heart, and you will find the peace you have always been searching for.
