Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- الداعي (Ad-Da'i): The caller or summoner — here referring to the angel Israfil (peace be upon him) who will blow the Trumpet and call all of creation to the gathering place of Resurrection.
- لا عِوَجَ (La 'iwaja): No crookedness, deviation, or turning aside — meaning no one can refuse, evade, or swerve away from this call.
- خَشَعَت (Khasha'at): Became humbled, subdued, and silenced — a state of complete submission and awe.
- هَمْسًا (Hamsan): A faint, soft, barely audible sound — like the gentle shuffling of feet or a whisper.
Explanation of the Verse:
On that tremendous Day — the Day of Resurrection — all of humanity, from the first to the last, will rise from their graves and follow the caller who summons them to the great gathering. There is absolutely no escape, no detour, and no possibility of turning away. Every soul, whether believer or disbeliever, whether willing or unwilling, will be drawn irresistibly to that appointed meeting with their Lord. The call is absolute truth, and all creation must answer it.
Then, in that awesome moment, all voices will fall silent before the Almighty, the Most Merciful. The loudest tyrant, the most boastful speaker, the most arrogant ruler — all will be struck with such profound awe and reverence that their tongues will freeze, and not a single sound will escape their lips. You will hear nothing but the faintest whisper — the soft, hushed sound of footsteps as people shuffle toward their destiny, their hearts trembling with fear and anticipation.
This scene paints a vivid picture of the absolute majesty and sovereignty of Allah (سبحانه وتعالى). The same people who once walked the earth with pride, raising their voices in arrogance and disputing His signs, will now stand in complete humility — their voices reduced to silence, their power stripped away, and their entire being surrendered to the will of their Creator.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, imagine that moment for yourself. Picture the silence that will fall over all of creation — the silence of kings and peasants alike, the silence of the rich and the poor, the silence of every soul that ever lived. In that moment, no argument will help, no wealth will protect, no status will matter. Only one thing will speak for you: your deeds.
This verse is a gentle yet powerful reminder that we are not here forever. This worldly life is but a fleeting moment — a journey with a destination that is certain. The caller is coming, and the appointment is fixed. So let us prepare now, while we still have time, while our voices can still be raised in prayer and our hearts can still turn to our Lord in repentance.
Let us be among those who will not fear that Day — for the believers who lived in obedience to Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ) will find peace in that silence, and their hearts will be at rest in the presence of the Most Merciful. Let us soften our hearts today, humble our voices in supplication, and walk the straight path — so that when the great caller summons us, we may answer with hope and serenity, not with fear and regret.
May Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) make us among those who listen to His call in this life and respond to it with faith, so that on that Day we may be among the successful.
