Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Atāhā" (أتاها): He came to it — referring to the fire that Musa (Moses) saw in the distance.
- "Nūdiya" (نودي): He was called — meaning a direct, divine call from Allah (God) to His prophet.
- "Yā Mūsā" (يا موسى): "O Moses" — a vocative address, showing closeness and honor.
Explanation of the Verse:
When Musa (peace be upon him) reached the fire that he had spotted from afar — hoping to bring back a burning brand to warm his family on that cold night — he did not find a worldly fire as he had expected. Instead, he found himself in the presence of a magnificent, sacred moment. Allah, the Exalted, called out to him directly by name: "O Moses." This was not a mere sound or a vague sensation; it was a clear, personal, and awe-inspiring call from the Lord of all worlds, initiating a conversation that would change Musa's life forever and set him on the path of prophethood.
This call came after Musa had already endured hardship, left Egypt in fear, and found refuge in the land of Madyan. Now, at the sacred valley of Tuwa, Allah chose to honor him with direct speech — a privilege granted to only a select few among humanity. The call was gentle yet powerful, personal yet majestic, and it marked the beginning of Musa's mission as a messenger to Pharaoh and his people.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, ponder this moment: the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the One who is not bound by time or place, chose to call a human being by name. This shows us the immense honor Allah bestows upon His righteous servants. It also reminds us that Allah is near, that He hears, and that He speaks to those who sincerely seek Him — not through literal sound today, but through His Book, His signs in the universe, and the guidance of His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
When you read this verse, let it inspire you to listen for Allah's call in your own life. He calls you through the Qur'an, through the call to prayer (Adhan), and through the voice of your conscience urging you toward good. Do not let the distractions of this world drown out that divine voice. Respond to it with a sincere heart, just as Musa responded with humility and readiness when he said, "Here I am, my Lord."
This verse also teaches us that true honor lies not in wealth, status, or lineage, but in being chosen by Allah for His service. Strive to be among those whom Allah loves and honors, by obeying His commands, avoiding His prohibitions, and seeking His pleasure in all that you do. For when Allah calls you, it is the greatest privilege a soul can ever receive — and the beginning of a journey that leads to eternal success in this life and the Hereafter.
