Tafsir (Explanation):
Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), peace be upon him, after his people threatened him for breaking their idols, turned to them with a powerful and logical rebuke. He said, in a tone of profound astonishment and reproach: "Do you then worship, instead of Allah, things that cannot benefit you in any way if you worship them, and cannot harm you in any way if you abandon them?"
These idols are utterly powerless — they cannot bring you sustenance, healing, protection, or any form of good, nor can they inflict upon you any harm, loss, or punishment. They are deaf, blind, and lifeless; they cannot even defend themselves from harm, let alone defend you. So how can you bow down to them, devote your worship to them, and place your hopes and fears in them?
Ibrahim's question was not merely an inquiry but a sharp, rational challenge designed to awaken their minds. He was saying: Reflect! Use your intellect! Is it not pure foolishness to prostrate before carved stones and wooden statues that are weaker than you — you who can pick them up, break them, and throw them aside? What could be more senseless than to abandon the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the All-Hearing, All-Seeing, All-Powerful Lord, for lifeless objects that cannot even swat a fly?
This verse carries a timeless lesson for every human being: worship is due only to the One who possesses benefit and harm in His Hands — Allah Almighty. Anything else, whether it be an idol, a person, wealth, status, or desire, is unworthy of your devotion, for it has no power to help you or hurt you. True success lies in directing your heart, your love, your fear, and your hope to Allah alone, the One who hears your prayers, answers your calls, and holds your destiny in His Hands.
So let this beautiful call of Ibrahim echo in your heart: why would you turn to creation when the Creator is near? Why would you fear the powerless when the All-Powerful is your Protector? Open your mind, purify your worship, and taste the sweetness of relying solely on Allah — the One who never fails those who turn to Him.
