Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Ismail (إسماعيل): The son of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), peace be upon him, known for his unwavering obedience and patience.
  • Idris (إدريس): A noble prophet, peace be upon him, renowned for his steadfastness and devotion.
  • Dhul-Kifl (ذو الكفل): A righteous prophet, peace be upon him, whose name signifies one who has been given a double share of reward due to his patience and commitment.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah, the Most High, calls upon His Messenger Muhammad, peace be upon him, to remember and honor three distinguished prophets: Ismail, Idris, and Dhul-Kifl, peace be upon them all. These noble messengers are described as being among the patient ones—those who endured trials and hardships with complete submission to Allah’s will. Their patience was not limited to one aspect of life; rather, it encompassed three profound dimensions: patience in obeying Allah’s commands, patience in abstaining from what He prohibited, and patience in accepting His divine decrees, whether favorable or challenging. Because of their remarkable endurance, Allah granted them an honorable mention in the Qur’an, making their stories a source of inspiration for all generations. Their lives exemplify that true patience is not passive resignation but an active, steadfast commitment to righteousness in every circumstance.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, ponder the lives of these great prophets. They faced immense trials—Ismail was willing to be sacrificed in obedience to Allah’s command, Idris remained firm in a society steeped in corruption, and Dhul-Kifl upheld his duties with unwavering resolve. Yet, they never wavered. Their patience was rewarded with eternal honor and divine praise. This teaches us that patience is the key to unlocking Allah’s mercy and blessings. In our own lives, we encounter difficulties—whether in our health, wealth, relationships, or faith. Instead of despairing, let us emulate these noble examples. When trials come, remember that Allah is with the patient, and He promises them a reward without measure. Embrace patience as a shield against despair and a bridge to success in this world and the Hereafter. Let the story of these prophets ignite in your heart a renewed determination to face every challenge with trust in Allah, knowing that after hardship comes ease, and that your Lord never abandons those who persevere.

📜 Verse 83-87 — Al-Anbiya

And [mention] Job, when he called to his Lord, "Indeed, adversity has touched me, and you are the Most Merciful of the merciful."
So We responded to him and removed what afflicted him of adversity. And We gave him [back] his family and the like thereof with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for the worshippers [of Allah].
And [mention] Ishmael and Idrees and Dhul-Kifl; all were of the patient.
And We admitted them into Our mercy. Indeed, they were of the righteous.
And [mention] the man of the fish, when he went off in anger and thought that We would not decree [anything] upon him. And he called out within the darknesses, "There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers."
