Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Rabbi (My Lord): The Prophet's address to Allah, acknowledging His absolute lordship and sovereignty.
  • Unṣurnī (Help me / Grant me victory): A plea for divine support and vindication against the opponents.
  • Bimā Kadhdhabūn (Because they denied me / Due to their rejection of me): The reason cited for seeking help — the persistent and obstinate denial of his message by his people.

Explanation of the Verse:

After enduring prolonged rejection, mockery, and relentless opposition from his people, the Messenger of Allah turned to his Lord in humble supplication. He said: "My Lord, grant me victory over them and support me against them, because they have denied my message and rejected the truth I brought to them."

This was not a prayer for personal revenge or worldly gain; rather, it was a plea for divine justice to prevail and for the truth to be made manifest. The Prophet sought Allah's intervention to vindicate the cause of monotheism and to demonstrate that the message he conveyed was indeed from the Creator of the heavens and the earth. His words reflect profound trust in Allah's wisdom, knowing that the One who sent him with the truth would not abandon him in the face of falsehood.

The verse teaches us that when a believer has fulfilled their duty of conveying the message with sincerity and patience, and the opposition persists in arrogance and denial, it is perfectly legitimate to turn to Allah and seek His help. This is not a sign of weakness but of deep reliance on Allah — the ultimate source of strength and justice. It also reassures every caller to the truth that their efforts are never in vain; Allah hears their supplications and responds in His own perfect timing.

A Call to Reflection:

How beautiful is this moment of intimate conversation between the Prophet and his Lord! It reminds us that no matter how overwhelming the challenges may seem, we are never alone. Allah is always near, always listening, always capable of turning the tables in favor of truth. Let this verse inspire you to strengthen your connection with Allah through supplication, especially when you face opposition for upholding righteousness. Trust in Allah's promise: "Indeed, victory comes with patience, relief comes after hardship, and with every difficulty there is ease." The help of Allah is near for those who remain steadfast and call upon Him with sincere hearts.

Life is not but our worldly life - we die and live, but we will not be resurrected.
He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allah, and we will not believe him."
He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me."
[Allah] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful."
So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people.
