Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Furūjihim (لِفُرُوجِهِمْ): Their private parts; a term used in the Qur'an to refer to the chastity and modesty of the body, specifically the intimate areas that must be protected from unlawful acts.
- Ḥāfiẓūn (حَافِظُونَ): Those who guard, protect, and preserve; it implies active, continuous vigilance, not just a one-time effort.
Explanation of the Verse:
After describing the believers as those who are humble in their prayers and turn away from idle talk, Allah now mentions another hallmark of their character: they guard their chastity. They protect their private parts from everything that Allah has forbidden—whether it be unlawful sexual relations (zinā), homosexual acts (liwāṭ), or any other form of indecency and immorality. This guarding is not merely physical restraint; it is a deep-rooted purity that manifests in their thoughts, their gaze, their speech, and their actions. They are people of 'iffah (self-restraint) and tahārah (purity), who keep themselves far from every path that leads to sin. Their chastity is a shield that protects their honor, their families, and their society from corruption. This verse teaches that true faith is not only about worship and devotion to Allah in the mosque; it is also about how one conducts oneself in the most private and vulnerable moments. A believer's obedience to Allah is complete—it covers the outward and the inward, the public and the private.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, reflect on the beauty of this divine instruction. Islam does not leave you in darkness; it lights your way in every aspect of life. Allah, in His infinite mercy, teaches you how to protect your dignity and the dignity of others. By guarding your chastity, you are not only obeying your Creator but also building a society of trust, honor, and mutual respect. This is the path of the successful believers—those who will be granted the highest ranks in Paradise. So, strive to be among them. Lower your gaze, control your desires, and remember that every moment of patience in this regard is a treasure that Allah will reward beyond your imagination. The pleasure of Allah and the peace of a pure heart are far greater than any fleeting gratification this world can offer. Embrace this noble quality, and let it be a source of pride for you in this life and a light for you in the Hereafter.
