Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Bi-Taridi (بِطَارِدِ): To drive away, expel, or banish someone from one's presence or gathering.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) responds to the arrogant disbelievers among his people who demanded that he drive away the poor and weak believers who had embraced his message. They argued that these humble followers—who were not wealthy or influential—were unworthy of sitting with him, and they made their own acceptance of faith conditional upon their expulsion.
Noah's reply is firm, noble, and profoundly instructive: "And I am not one to drive away the believers." He refuses categorically to abandon those who had sincerely believed in Allah, regardless of their social status, wealth, or background. He makes it clear that their demand was not only unacceptable but also contrary to the very essence of prophethood and true faith.
This statement carries a powerful message: faith is not measured by worldly standing, and the truth is not reserved for the elite. The believers—however poor or weak they may appear—are honored by their faith, and no prophet of Allah would ever humiliate them to appease the arrogant. Noah further clarifies his role in the following verse, stating that he is merely a clear warner, not a gatekeeper who decides who is worthy of guidance based on social rank.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
This verse teaches us a timeless lesson about the beauty of Islam: it is a religion of justice, humility, and dignity for all. In a world that often measures people by wealth, status, or appearance, Islam elevates the criterion of piety and sincerity alone. Let this noble stance of Prophet Noah inspire you to treat every believer with respect and love, regardless of their worldly position. And let it remind you that true honor lies not in what you own, but in what you believe and how you live. Embrace this beautiful faith with an open heart, for it is a path that honors the humble, uplifts the sincere, and leads to eternal success.
