Explanation of the Verse:
This verse is a profound rhetorical question posed by Prophet Salih (peace be upon him) to his people, the Thamud, who had been blessed with extraordinary favors from Allah. He asks them with a tone of gentle rebuke and warning: "Do you truly imagine that you will be left forever in this worldly life, secure and at ease, without any reckoning or consequence?"
The question is not merely informational—it is a wake-up call. It challenges their complacency and their false sense of eternal security. They were living in lush gardens with flowing springs, fertile farmland, and date palms bearing ripe, sweet fruit. They had carved magnificent homes into the mountains with remarkable skill, living in luxury and pride. Yet, they had forgotten the One who granted them all of this, and they had become arrogant and heedless.
The deeper message here is that no matter how abundant the blessings, this world is temporary and fleeting. Every soul shall taste death, and every blessing will eventually come to an end. The One who gave them all these gifts has the absolute power to take them away in an instant. Therefore, true security is not found in worldly comforts, but in obedience to Allah and preparation for the Day when we will stand before Him.
This verse serves as a timeless reminder for all of humanity: Do not be deceived by the glitter of this world. The gardens, the wealth, the health, the family—all of it is a trust from Allah, and we will be asked about how we used it. The one who lives heedlessly, assuming they will remain forever, is living in a delusion. But the one who recognizes the transient nature of this life and works for the eternal life to come has attained true wisdom.
O beloved reader, let this verse stir your heart. Look around you at the blessings you enjoy—your home, your food, your safety, your loved ones. Are these not signs of Allah's immense mercy? Then do not let these blessings make you forgetful. Instead, let them draw you closer to your Creator. Thank Him, obey Him, and remember that every moment of ease is an opportunity to earn His pleasure. For the one who lives in gratitude and awareness, Allah promises security not only in this world but in the everlasting bliss of Paradise.
