Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Turaban" (تُرَابًا): Dust or soil, referring to the state of the human body after death and decomposition.
- "Wa aba'una" (وَآبَاؤُنَا): And our forefathers — those who came before us and have already died.
- "Lamukhrajun" (لَمُخْرَجُونَ): To be brought forth, raised, or resurrected from the graves.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this verse, Allah Almighty informs us of the words of those who denied His Oneness and rejected the message of His prophets — specifically the polytheists of Makkah. They spoke with an air of denial and mockery, saying: "When we have died and become dust — we and our forefathers before us — will we truly be brought forth again from our graves, alive as we once were?"
Their question was not a genuine inquiry seeking truth, but rather an expression of sheer astonishment and rejection. They found it inconceivable that bodies which had decomposed into the earth, mingling with the soil, could ever be reassembled and restored to life. They viewed resurrection as an impossibility, mocking the very idea that seemed so remote from their limited understanding of the world.
Yet, in their denial, they overlooked the very power that created them in the first place. The One who brought them into existence from nothing — from a mere drop of fluid — is certainly capable of bringing them back to life after death. Their astonishment at the possibility of resurrection is a sign of their ignorance of their Lord's infinite power, for the One who originated creation is more than able to repeat it.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause and reflect deeply upon this scene. These people denied the resurrection because they measured Allah's power against their own limited capabilities. They looked at the dust and saw only finality, but the believer looks at the dust and sees the seed of a new beginning. The same Allah who created the heavens and the earth without any previous example — the same Allah who brings forth the green plant from the dead earth after rain — is the One who promises to raise you from your grave.
Do not be like those who confined their thinking to the material world they could perceive. Open your heart to the truth that the Hereafter is real, that the Day of Resurrection is coming, and that every soul shall be held accountable for its deeds. Let this certainty transform your life — filling your days with purpose, your actions with sincerity, and your heart with hope in the mercy of your Lord. For the resurrection is not a distant impossibility; it is the most certain of all certainties, and the wise one prepares for it before it arrives.
