Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Asbat (الأسباط): The prophets who were sent among the twelve tribes of the Children of Israel, all descendants of Prophet Ya'qub (Jacob), peace be upon him.
- Utiya (أوتي): What was given, meaning the scriptures and divine revelations such as the Torah and the Gospel.
- Muslimun (مسلمون): Those who submit completely and sincerely to Allah alone, surrendering their will to His commands.
Explanation of the Verse:
O Prophet Muhammad, say to the people—declaring the true faith of you and your followers: "We believe in Allah with complete conviction, and we obey Him alone as our Lord and our God. We believe in the revelation that has been sent down to us—the Qur'an—and we believe in what was revealed to Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), the intimate friend of Allah, and to his sons Isma'il (Ishmael) and Ishaq (Isaac), and to Ya'qub (Jacob), the son of Ishaq, and to the prophets who came from his descendants among the twelve tribes of Israel. We also believe in what was given to Musa (Moses)—the Torah—and to 'Isa (Jesus)—the Gospel—and to all the prophets from their Lord, whether their revelations were scriptures, laws, or miracles. We make no distinction between any of them: we do not believe in some and reject others, nor do we elevate one above another in terms of faith. Rather, we accept them all as true messengers of Allah. And we are, to Him alone, completely submissive and obedient, surrendering our hearts, our tongues, and our actions to His will."
Da'wah Reflection:
This verse is a beautiful declaration of the unity of faith across all divine messages. It teaches us that Islam is not a new religion that came to cancel all that preceded it, but rather the completion and confirmation of the one true message that Allah sent through every prophet. The Qur'an calls upon us to honor all prophets equally, for they are all brothers in the same mission: calling humanity to worship Allah alone. This is the essence of true faith—a faith that unites rather than divides, that embraces the truth wherever it appears, and that submits wholeheartedly to the Creator of all. When you declare this belief with sincerity, you align yourself with the timeless message of all prophets, from Adam to Muhammad, peace be upon them all. This is the path of peace, the path of light, and the path that leads to eternal success in this life and the Hereafter. Embrace it with an open heart, and you will find tranquility that transcends all worldly concerns.
