Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Mublisin (مُبْلِسِينَ): Those who are in a state of deep despair and hopelessness, having lost all expectation of good.
- Min qablihi (مِن قَبْلِهِ): Before it (the rain) comes down upon them — i.e., before the clouds bring the rain.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse paints a vivid and profound picture of human nature and the mercy of Allah. It describes a people who have been suffering from drought and the absence of rain for a long time. Their lands have dried up, their hopes have withered, and their hearts have become heavy with despair. They had reached a point where they no longer expected any relief — they were utterly dejected, their faces clouded with sorrow, and their spirits crushed by the weight of their circumstances.
Then, suddenly, Allah’s mercy descends. The clouds gather, the rain pours down, and the barren earth comes alive again. The very same people who were moments ago drowning in hopelessness are now filled with joy and gratitude. This dramatic shift — from despair to delight — is a testament to Allah’s absolute power and His boundless compassion for His creation.
The verse highlights a beautiful truth: no matter how dark the night may seem, Allah’s relief is always near. The servant of Allah should never lose hope in His mercy, for He alone controls the clouds, the rain, and every blessing that descends from the heavens. The One who sends rain from the sky is the same One who sends relief to the hearts of the distressed, the answers to the prayers of the desperate, and the light after the darkness of trials.
This is an invitation for every believer to reflect: if Allah can transform a barren, lifeless land into a lush, thriving garden with a single shower of rain, then He can certainly transform your difficult situation into one of ease and abundance. So turn to Him with a heart full of hope, for His mercy precedes His wrath, and His generosity knows no bounds. The very clouds that bring rain are a sign of His love for His servants — and your Lord, who never abandons you, is always ready to shower you with His grace.
