Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Phrases:

  • "بِمَا غَفَرَ لِي رَبِّي" – "Because my Lord has forgiven me" – referring to the forgiveness of sins granted by Allah.
  • "وَجَعَلَنِي مِنَ الْمُكْرَمِينَ" – "And has placed me among the honored ones" – meaning Allah has dignified and elevated him in rank and reward.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse is part of the story of a believing man from the town of Antioch (Antakya), who was killed by his own people after he called them to worship Allah alone. After his martyrdom, he was told to enter Paradise, and when he witnessed its eternal bliss and honor, he expressed a heartfelt wish: "Would that my people knew that my Lord has forgiven me and placed me among the honored ones."

His longing was not for revenge or regret, but out of pure compassion and sincere concern for his people's guidance. He wished they could see the reality of what he had attained — the forgiveness of sins and the honor of being welcomed into Paradise — so that they too might believe in Allah and follow the truth, thereby sharing in the same eternal success. This statement reflects his deep faith, his patience in the face of persecution, and his unwavering love for his people, even after they wronged him.

Da'wah Reflection:

This verse teaches us a profound lesson: the believer's ultimate joy is not in worldly gains, but in the forgiveness and honor bestowed by Allah. The martyr's wish for his people's guidance, even after being killed by them, shows the purity of true faith — a faith that seeks good for others, even enemies. It reminds us that Islam calls us to compassion, forgiveness, and sincere concern for others' salvation. How beautiful is the character of a believer who, even in Paradise, thinks of guiding others to the same bliss! Let this inspire us to embody such noble traits — to wish for others what we wish for ourselves, and to remain steadfast in our faith, knowing that Allah's forgiveness and honor are the greatest treasures we can ever attain.
