Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- "Min mithlihi" (مِّن مِّثْلِهِ): "From the like of it" — meaning something similar in nature and function to the ark of Noah.
- "Ma yarkabūn" (مَا يَرْكَبُونَ): "What they ride" — referring to vessels and means of transportation they use to travel across land and sea.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this verse, Allah reminds us of yet another profound sign of His mercy and power. After mentioning the ark of Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) and how it carried the believers through the great flood, Allah now says: "And We created for them from the like of it that which they ride."
This means that Allah, in His infinite grace, did not leave humanity without means of transport after the time of Noah. He created for them ships, boats, and other vessels that sail across the seas, just as He created the ark for Noah. Some scholars also include camels in this meaning — for the camel is often called "the ship of the desert" — as it carries people and their goods across vast, barren lands, just as ships carry them across oceans.
This is a direct sign of Allah's oneness and His kindness toward His creation. He could have left people stranded, unable to travel, trade, or visit their loved ones. But instead, He made the earth subservient to them and gave them the means to traverse it — whether by sea or by land. Every time you board a ship, a plane, or even ride a camel or a horse, remember that this is a gift from your Lord, a continuation of the same mercy that saved Noah and the believers.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause for a moment and think: Who is it that made the oceans navigable? Who is it that gave wood, metal, and other materials the properties that allow them to float and carry heavy loads? Who is it that instilled in the human mind the intelligence to build such vessels? It is Allah — the Creator, the Sustainer, the Most Merciful.
This verse invites us to look at the world around us with grateful eyes. Every journey you take, every ride you board, is a living testimony to Allah's care for you. So let your heart be filled with love for Him, and let your tongue be busy with praise. And if you truly recognize these blessings, then turn to Him in obedience and worship — for the One who provides you with transport in this world is the One who deserves your devotion in all matters.
May Allah make us among those who see His signs, appreciate His favors, and worship Him with sincerity.
