Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Hifzan (حِفْظًا): Protection and safeguarding.
- Shaytan (شَيْطَانٍ): A rebellious devil or demon from among the jinn.
- Marid (مَارِدٍ): One who is defiant, insolent, and excessively rebellious; a devil that has overstepped all bounds in wickedness and arrogance.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this noble verse, Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) informs us that He has adorned the lowest heaven with stars—not merely as a beautiful decoration, but as a means of protection. He has safeguarded the heavens from every rebellious, defiant devil who dares to approach the celestial realm. These devils, who are characterized by their extreme insolence and transgression, are repelled and pelted with blazing meteors (shihab) when they attempt to eavesdrop on the heavenly discourse. This divine protection ensures that the sacred knowledge of the unseen remains untainted and that the devils cannot corrupt the message of revelation or interfere with the divine order.
This verse highlights the absolute power and wisdom of Allah, who has established a cosmic defense system that operates by His command. The stars serve a dual purpose: they illuminate the heavens for mankind, and they act as sentinels guarding against the intrusion of evil forces. This demonstrates that Allah's creation is not random, but rather purposeful and meticulously designed to preserve the purity of His guidance and the integrity of His dominion.
A Da'wah Reflection:
How magnificent is the care of our Lord! The same heavens that you gaze upon at night, filled with countless stars, are not only a breathtaking spectacle but also a fortress of divine protection. Allah has taken it upon Himself to guard the unseen realm from every force of evil, so that His revelation reaches you untainted and pure. If Allah protects the heavens with such vigilance, how much more does He protect the hearts of His believing servants who turn to Him in sincerity? When you read the Qur'an and feel its light filling your heart, know that this very Book has been shielded from every attempt of corruption—from the time of revelation until this very moment. This is a sign of Allah's boundless love for humanity: He did not leave us without guidance, nor did He leave that guidance vulnerable to distortion. So hold fast to this Qur'an, for it is protected by the One who protects the heavens themselves. And let this verse increase your awe of Allah's power and your gratitude for His mercy—for He has made the path to Him safe and clear, guarded from every devilish whisper that seeks to lead you astray.
