Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Ash-Shafa'ah (الشَّفَاعَةُ): Intercession; the act of pleading on behalf of another to obtain mercy or forgiveness.
- Jamee'an (جَمِيعًا): Entirely, wholly, all of it.
- Mulk (مُلْكُ): Sovereignty, dominion, absolute ownership and control.
- Turja'oon (تُرْجَعُونَ): You will be returned; you will be brought back.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Messenger, say clearly to those who worship false deities and hope for their intercession: All intercession belongs to Allah alone — completely and exclusively. No one, no matter how exalted their rank, can intercede with Him except by His own permission. He alone holds the absolute sovereignty of the heavens and the earth; everything within them is under His command and control. Therefore, the One who possesses all power and authority is the only One worthy of being sought for intercession, and He is the only One deserving of sincere worship. These idols and false gods you call upon possess nothing — they cannot harm, benefit, or intercede for anyone. So direct your hopes, your prayers, and your devotion solely to Allah, and do not seek intercession from those who own nothing. Then, after your death, you will all be returned to Him alone on the Day of Judgment, where He will hold you accountable for your deeds and reward or punish you with perfect justice.
Da'wah Reflection:
This verse is a profound reminder of Allah's absolute sovereignty and His exclusive right to be worshipped. It frees the heart from dependence on any created being and directs it toward the Creator alone. When you realize that all intercession belongs to Allah, you understand that no human, no saint, no angel can benefit you except by His will. So turn to Him directly — He is near, He hears, He responds. Your salvation lies not in intermediaries, but in sincere submission to the One who owns the heavens and the earth. And since to Him is your ultimate return, let every moment of your life be a step toward pleasing Him, so that when you meet Him, you meet Him with a heart full of faith and a record full of good deeds. This is the true path to success — in this life and the next.
