Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah Almighty reveals to us the words of Satan after he was cursed and expelled from His mercy. Satan declared his relentless enmity toward the children of Adam, vowing to mislead them from the straight path, to fill their minds with false hopes and endless procrastination, and to command them to commit acts of corruption and disobedience. Among these commands were the superstitious practices of the pre-Islamic Arabs, such as slitting the ears of cattle to mark them as forbidden for use, thereby declaring unlawful what Allah had made lawful. Satan also vowed to command them to change the very creation of Allah – altering the natural form and fitrah upon which Allah created humanity and the world, whether through physical mutilation, distortion of one's nature, or corrupting the pure and sound disposition that Allah instilled in every soul.
The verse then delivers a powerful and sobering conclusion: whoever takes Satan as a protector, ally, and guide instead of Allah has indeed suffered a clear and manifest loss. Such a person has traded the eternal bliss of the Hereafter for the fleeting illusions of this world, and has surrendered their intellect, their nature, and their destiny to the worst of enemies. This is not a hidden loss or a minor setback – it is a devastating, unmistakable ruin that leaves the soul empty and the scales of good deeds barren.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear believer, ponder deeply upon this verse and recognize the cunning of your enemy. Satan does not merely tempt you with obvious sins – he beautifies them, delays your repentance, and makes you believe that you have plenty of time. He whispers to you that changing your appearance, your values, or your relationship with Allah is harmless, when in truth it is a slow drift away from your Creator. But Allah, in His infinite mercy, has warned you of this plot and has given you the Qur'an as a light, and the Sunnah as a guide. He has made His religion easy and beautiful, and He has promised that whoever holds fast to Him will never be lost.
So, my beloved brother and sister, do not let Satan steal your heart or your destiny. Return to Allah, purify your intentions, and protect the fitrah that He has blessed you with. For indeed, the one who clings to Allah has grasped the strongest handhold that never breaks, and the one who turns away from Him has lost everything – while the one who returns to Him finds peace, mercy, and a success that knows no end. Let this verse be a reminder that your true ally, your true protector, and your true Lord is Allah alone – and in His care lies the ultimate victory.
