Surah An-Nisa — Verse 118

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse continues the narrative of Satan's defiance and rebellion against Allah's command. Because of his arrogance and refusal to prostrate to Adam, Allah cast him out of His divine mercy — a curse that follows him until the Day of Judgment. Yet, even in his fallen state, Satan did not repent or humble himself. Instead, he boldly declared to his Lord: "I will surely take from Your servants an appointed portion" — meaning, he vowed to claim a fixed, known share of humanity for himself. This share consists of those who follow his whispers, obey his suggestions, and deviate from the straight path — whether in their words, their deeds, or their beliefs. Satan's promise was not a vague wish but a determined oath, and he has been tirelessly working to fulfill it ever since.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear believer, pause and reflect on the gravity of this verse. Here is an enemy who has openly declared war against you — not with swords or armies, but with whispers, temptations, and the beautification of sin. He has already claimed his share, and he works relentlessly to increase it. But know this: Allah, the Most Merciful, has given you the weapons to defeat him — the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the constant remembrance of your Lord. Every time you resist a temptation, every time you choose obedience over desire, you snatch a soul from Satan's grasp and add it to the ranks of Allah's righteous servants. Do not let your share be with him. Strive to be among those whom Allah protects, for the pleasure of Allah is far greater than any fleeting enjoyment Satan can offer. The choice is yours — will you be part of his appointed portion, or will you be among the victorious servants of the Most Merciful?
