Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse describes a category of people—hypocrites and those with weak faith—who take disbelievers as their allies, protectors, and confidants, turning away from the believers. They prefer the company and support of those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, hoping to gain some worldly advantage, security, or status through them.
The verse then poses a rhetorical question, expressing amazement at their behavior: "Are they seeking honor and power with them?" In other words, do they truly believe that aligning themselves with the disbelievers will bring them glory, protection, or victory? This is a profound error in their thinking.
The answer comes immediately, decisively, and with absolute clarity: "Then indeed, all honor belongs to Allah entirely." All might, power, and true supremacy rest solely with Allah—the Creator, the Sustainer, and the Sovereign of all that exists. No one can grant honor, protection, or victory except Allah. Whoever seeks honor must seek it through obedience to Allah and through His righteous servants, the believers.
This verse carries a timeless and vital lesson for every Muslim: never place your trust, loyalty, or hope in those who oppose Allah, for they possess nothing that can truly benefit you. True honor is not found in the approval of the powerful, the wealth of the rich, or the alliances of the mighty—it is found only in a sincere connection with Allah, in faith, and in standing with His believing servants. When you align yourself with the believers and rely on Allah, you are connected to the source of all power and might. But when you seek honor from the disbelievers, you are grasping at a mirage that will vanish in an instant.
So, dear believer, let your loyalty be to Allah and His faithful servants. Do not be dazzled by the apparent strength of those who reject the truth, for their power is borrowed and temporary. The one whom Allah honors, no one can humiliate; and the one whom Allah humiliates, no one can honor. Seek your ‘izzah—your true honor and dignity—through your faith, your prayer, and your steadfastness upon the path of Allah. That is the path of victory in this life and the Hereafter.
