Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Rafa‘ahu (رَّفَعَهُ): Raised him up, elevated him.
- Azīz (عَزِيزًا): Almighty, Mighty, Prevailing over all things, invincible in His power.
- Hakīm (حَكِيمًا): All-Wise, Perfect in His planning, decree, and legislation.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse is a decisive and powerful response to the claims of those who said, "We killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary." Allah Almighty refutes this falsehood outright: "Rather, Allah raised him up to Himself." This means that Jesus (peace be upon him) was not killed, nor was he crucified, as some had falsely claimed. Instead, Allah saved him from the plot of his enemies and lifted him up—body and soul—alive, to a station of honor and closeness with Him. This was an act of divine protection and elevation, saving him from the humiliation of his enemies and purifying him from their slander and wicked schemes.
The verse then closes with two of Allah’s magnificent attributes: "And Allah is ever Almighty, All-Wise." He is *Azīz*—the One whose might no one can overcome, and whose will no one can thwart. No plot, no matter how cunning, can ever defeat Him. And He is *Hakīm*—the All-Wise, who does everything with perfect wisdom and justice. His decision to raise Jesus was not arbitrary; it was part of His profound plan, which encompasses the protection of His righteous servants and the ultimate triumph of truth over falsehood.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, ponder the greatness of this divine assurance. The enemies of truth may scheme, plot, and appear to succeed for a time, but Allah’s power is above all, and His wisdom governs all affairs. Just as He saved His prophet Jesus from the hands of his oppressors, He is fully capable of protecting His believing servants in every age. This verse instills in the believer’s heart a profound sense of trust in Allah’s care and a deep conviction that no matter how dark the circumstances may seem, the Almighty’s plan is always at work. Let this strengthen your faith, and let it remind you that true honor lies not in this world’s fleeting victories, but in being raised in the sight of Allah through faith and righteous deeds. Embrace this truth, and let your heart find peace in the knowledge that Allah is indeed *Azīz* and *Hakīm*—Mighty in His power, Wise in His every decree.
