Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Yastankifa (يستنكف): To disdain, refuse arrogantly, or consider oneself above something.
- Al-Maseeh (المسيح): The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary (peace be upon him).
- Al-Muqarrabun (المقربون): Those brought near to Allah — the angels of the highest rank, such as those who carry the Throne.
- Yastakbir (يستكبر): To show pride and arrogance, to deem oneself too great to submit.
Tafsir (Explanation):
The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary (peace be upon him), will never disdain or refuse to be a servant of Allah. On the contrary, being a servant of Allah is his greatest honor and highest distinction — a status he proudly embraces. Likewise, the angels who are closest to Allah — those honored with proximity to His Throne — do not consider servitude to Allah beneath them. They submit willingly and humbly, glorifying their Lord day and night without weariness.
So how can anyone claim that Jesus is a god, when he himself is a devoted servant of Allah? And how can the polytheists worship angels as deities, when those very angels are humble servants of their Creator? The very beings they falsely elevate are themselves the most perfect examples of submission and worship.
Then Allah warns: Whoever turns away from worshipping Him out of arrogance and pride — refusing to bow in humility before his Lord — Allah will gather all such people before Him on the Day of Resurrection, without exception. No one will escape that gathering. There, He will judge between them with perfect justice, rewarding the obedient and punishing the arrogant. The proud who disdained worship will find no protector, no intercessor, and no escape from the consequences of their haughtiness.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on this profound truth: the greatest of Allah's creation — a mighty prophet like Jesus and the noblest angels — all take pride in being servants of Allah. They compete in humility before Him, not in arrogance. So what about us, weak human beings? How can we feel too proud to pray, too busy to remember Allah, or too important to bow in sujood? Servitude to Allah is not a humiliation; it is the highest honor a creature can attain. The more you humble yourself before your Lord, the more He elevates you. And the more you exalt yourself, the more He humiliates you. Choose the path of the beloved servants — the path of Jesus and the angels — and you will find peace in this life and salvation in the next.
