Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

Come, approach.
They turn away, they avert themselves.
A complete and emphatic turning away, signifying strong aversion and rejection.

Tafsir (Explanation):

When the hypocrites—those who outwardly declare faith but inwardly harbor disbelief—are sincerely advised and told, "Come to what Allah has revealed in His Book and to the Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him) so that he may judge between you according to Allah’s law," you, O Prophet, witness them turning away from you with total aversion and arrogance. They refuse the divine judgment and instead prefer to seek rulings from other sources—whether from their own desires, tribal customs, or the laws of ignorance—because they do not truly believe in the truth of what has been revealed. Their turning away is not a mere hesitation; it is a deliberate, stubborn rejection that exposes their inner hypocrisy.

This verse highlights a profound reality: the hypocrites claim to believe, yet when the call to Allah’s revelation and His Messenger is made, they flee from it as if it were a burden. Their hearts are attached to worldly interests, and they fear that the truth will expose their falsehood or disrupt their schemes. They avoid the Prophet’s judgment because they know it would go against their corrupt intentions.

A Da’wah Reflection:

Dear believer, this verse is a mirror for the soul. It calls us to examine our own response when we are invited to the Qur’an and the Sunnah. Do we rush to obey, or do we find excuses to delay and turn away? The hypocrites turned away because their faith was weak and their attachment to this world was strong. But the believer’s hallmark is submission: when Allah and His Messenger decree a matter, the believer says, "We hear and we obey." Let this be your attitude—embrace the divine guidance with an open heart, for in it lies your success in this life and the Hereafter. The Qur’an is not a burden; it is a mercy, a light, and a healing for what is in your chest. Do not let the whispers of arrogance or worldly desires pull you away from the straight path. Come to Allah’s revelation with humility and sincerity, and you will find peace, justice, and true liberation.

📜 Verse 59-63 — An-Nisa

O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result.
Have you not seen those who claim to have believed in what was revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you? They wish to refer legislation to Taghut, while they were commanded to reject it; and Satan wishes to lead them far astray.
And when it is said to them, "Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger," you see the hypocrites turning away from you in aversion.
So how [will it be] when disaster strikes them because of what their hands have put forth and then they come to you swearing by Allah, "We intended nothing but good conduct and accommodation."
Those are the ones of whom Allah knows what is in their hearts, so turn away from them but admonish them and speak to them a far-reaching word.
