Explanation of the Verse:
On the Day of Judgment, when the disbelievers are gathered and brought toward the Fire, they will be confronted with the testimony of their own limbs, hands, feet, and skins — all bearing witness against them for the sins they committed in secret, thinking no one saw or heard. In utter shock and denial, they will turn to their own skins and ask in bewilderment: "Why did you testify against us? Were you not part of us? Did you not share in our deeds?"
And the skins will answer — not with anger, but with a profound truth that silences every excuse: "Allah — the One who gave speech to all things — made us speak." This is the same Allah who created you the first time from nothing, when you were not even a mention. He who created you once is fully able to make even your skin testify against you. And to Him alone is your final return — there is no escape, no hiding, and no appeal against His perfect justice.
This verse reveals a stunning reality: on that Day, the very coverings of your body — the skin you tanned, protected, and adorned — will become truthful witnesses. Nothing will remain hidden. The One who gave the tongue its speech and the ear its hearing will grant speech to the silent, and every secret will be exposed.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader — ponder this scene with a heart that is awake. If your own skin will speak against you, what will it say? Every glance, every step, every word uttered in the dark of night is being recorded by a body that will one day testify. But here is the beautiful news: the same Allah who made the skins speak is the One who sent His mercy before His wrath. He has opened the door of repentance wide — so wide that even the worst of sinners can turn back and find Him waiting with forgiveness. Do not wait until the Day when your limbs become witnesses against you. Let them be witnesses for you instead, by filling your days with righteousness, and let your skin testify that it was used in prayer, in helping others, and in avoiding what displeases your Lord. The choice is yours — and the time is now.
