📖 English Meaning

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Khazā'in (خَزَائِنُ): The treasuries or storehouses of provision, mercy, prophethood, and all forms of divine bounty.
  • Al-Musayṭirūn (الْمُصَيْطِرُونَ): Those who have absolute control, dominance, and authority over others, able to dispose of affairs as they wish.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse poses a rhetorical question to those who reject the message of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and deny the Qur'an. It challenges their false claims and assumptions of superiority. The meaning is: "Do they possess the treasuries of your Lord's mercy and provision, so that they could grant prophethood or sustenance to whomever they please and withhold it from whomever they wish? Or are they the ones who have full control and dominance over all creation, able to manage everything according to their own will?"

The answer is clearly no. These people are weak, powerless creatures who have no authority whatsoever over anything in the heavens or the earth. They cannot bring benefit or harm even to themselves, let alone control the affairs of others or decide who receives divine revelation. Allah alone holds the keys to all treasures—of provision, mercy, knowledge, and prophethood—and He grants them to whom He wills out of His infinite wisdom and justice.

This verse serves as a powerful reminder that human beings, no matter how wealthy, powerful, or influential they may appear, are utterly dependent on Allah. They possess nothing of their own. The One who controls all affairs is Allah alone, and He chooses His messengers and bestows His favors according to His perfect knowledge and wisdom—not according to people's desires or social status.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder deeply upon this profound truth: the treasures of this universe and the Hereafter are all in the hands of Allah alone. When you realize this, your heart will find peace, and your trust in Him will grow. No one can withhold what Allah has destined for you, and no one can grant you what Allah has not decreed. So turn to your Lord with humility, seek His guidance, and be grateful for the greatest treasure He has given you—the gift of Islam and the guidance of the Qur'an. Indeed, the One who controls all affairs is the Most Merciful, the Most Wise, and He has sent His final messenger with the truth out of His boundless love for humanity. Embrace this guidance, and you will find success in this life and the next.

36أَمْ خَلَقُوا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ ۚ بَل لَّا يُوقِنُونَ
Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain.
