Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- انشَقَّتِ (inshaqqat): Split asunder, cleft, or torn apart.
- وَرْدَةً (wardah): Rose-colored, i.e., red like a rose.
- الدِّهَانِ (ad-dihan): Molten oil, melted metal (like lead or brass), or tanned leather that shines — all indicating something that flows and glows intensely.
Explanation of the Verse:
On the Day of Judgment, when the heavens are torn open and split apart — not as a gentle rupture, but a violent cleaving that signals the end of this world — the sky will transform into something utterly unrecognizable. It will become like a rose in its deep red hue, yet not a soft and delicate rose; rather, it will be like molten oil, boiling and flowing, or like melted lead and brass, glowing with intense heat and terror. This imagery conveys the sheer magnitude of that Day — a day when even the most solid and immense creation of Allah, the sky that arches above us, will melt and churn like liquid fire. The calm blue canopy we see today will be replaced by a scene of overwhelming redness and fluidity, reflecting the absolute power of Allah over all that exists.
This verse strikes at the heart of human complacency. We look up at the sky and see stability, peace, and permanence — but on that Day, it will be torn apart like a garment, and its very substance will turn into something akin to burning oil. This is not a metaphor for a distant possibility; it is a certain reality that Allah has promised. The purpose of this description is to awaken the soul from its slumber, to remind us that no matter how secure we feel in this life, the Hour will come suddenly, and everything we know will be overturned.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, pause for a moment and imagine that scene: the sky above you — the same sky you see every day — splitting open, turning red like a rose, and flowing like molten oil. This is not a scene from a fantasy; it is the truth that Allah has revealed to us out of His mercy, so that we may prepare. If you have not yet turned to your Lord, today is your opportunity. The door of repentance is open, and Allah’s mercy is vast. Do not wait until that Day when the sky is rent asunder and no plea will be accepted. Return to Allah now, with a sincere heart, and He will forgive you, for He is the Most Merciful, the Most Forgiving. Let this vivid description be a wake-up call that softens your heart and draws you closer to the One who holds the heavens and the earth in His grasp.
