Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • أَكْوَابٍ (Akwab): Plural of *kub*, meaning drinking vessels or cups that have no handles and no spouts.
  • أَبَارِيقَ (Abarīq): Plural of *ibrīq*, meaning jugs or pitchers that have handles and spouts.
  • كَأْسٍ (Ka's): A cup or goblet filled with drink, specifically referring to wine in the context of Paradise.
  • مَعِينٍ (Ma'īn): Flowing, running water or wine that springs forth continuously and never runs dry.

Tafsir (Explanation):

In this blessed verse, Allah describes the exquisite service and drink prepared for the dwellers of Paradise. Immortal youth—servants who never age, never tire, and never die—will circulate among the blessed, offering them drinks in three types of vessels: *akwab* (cups without handles or spouts, easy to drink from from any side), *abarīq* (elegant pitchers with handles and spouts for pouring), and *ka's* (goblets filled with wine from a flowing spring). This wine is described as *ma'īn*, meaning it flows continuously from an ever-lasting source in Paradise, never depleting and never ceasing.

Unlike the wine of this world, which brings headaches, intoxication, and loss of reason, this heavenly wine is pure and delightful—it does not cause any harm to the mind or body. It is a drink of pure pleasure and joy, free from all negative consequences. The imagery here paints a scene of ultimate luxury, comfort, and divine generosity, where every need is anticipated and fulfilled with perfection.

Da'wah Reflection:

This verse invites us to reflect on the boundless mercy and generosity of our Lord. Allah does not merely provide for His righteous servants in the Hereafter—He provides in the most magnificent, dignified, and beautiful manner imaginable. The details of these vessels and the flowing wine are not trivial; they are glimpses into a reality so perfect that human minds can barely fathom it. This should fill our hearts with hope and longing for Paradise, motivating us to strive in obedience to Allah and to seek His pleasure in every action. The promise of such eternal bliss is a call to every soul: do not settle for the fleeting pleasures of this temporary world, but aspire to the everlasting joy that awaits those who believe and do righteous deeds. Let this verse be a reminder that Allah's generosity knows no bounds, and His reward for even a moment of patience and faith is beyond our imagination.
