Surah Al-Waqi'ah — Verse 5

Tafsir (Explanation):

On that Day of Judgment, the mountains—those colossal, immovable structures that seemed eternal to humanity—will be utterly shattered and crumbled into the finest particles. They will be ground down like flour or fine dust, scattered by the wind until nothing remains of their former grandeur. This vivid imagery emphasizes the absolute power of Allah, Who can reduce the mightiest creations to nothing in an instant. The mountains, which once stood as symbols of stability and permanence, will become like scattered powder, illustrating that everything in this worldly life is temporary and subject to Allah’s command.

This scene is a profound reminder of the transient nature of our existence. Just as the mountains—so firm and unshakable—will be obliterated, so too will the worldly attachments and ambitions that we cling to be rendered meaningless on that Day. The believer is thus urged to reflect: if the mountains cannot withstand the onset of the Hour, how can we afford to be heedless? Let this verse awaken your heart to prepare for the inevitable meeting with your Lord. The One who crumbles mountains with a single command is the same One who has promised Paradise to His righteous servants—so strive for that eternal reward, and let not the fleeting pleasures of this world distract you from what truly matters.
