Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

(An-Nar): The fire.
(Tūrūn): You kindle or ignite it, from the verb *warā* meaning to strike a fire or produce sparks.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Have you ever paused to reflect on the fire you kindle with such ease? You strike a match, rub two stones together, or turn a knob, and flames leap forth to serve your cooking, warmth, and light. But ask yourself: who created the very substance within the wood, the oil, or the gas that gives rise to that fire? Who placed in the trees the hidden spark that bursts into flame when friction is applied? Is it you who brought that potential into existence, or is it Allah, the All-Powerful Creator, who fashioned it all?

Indeed, it is Allah alone who originated the fire and its sources. You merely uncover what He has already placed there. The fire you see is a sign of His boundless power and mercy—a mercy that provides you with warmth in the cold, light in the darkness, and a means to prepare your sustenance. Yet, this same fire is but a glimpse of a far greater reality: the Hellfire that awaits those who reject His guidance, and the Paradise He has prepared for the believers who are grateful.

So, O servant of Allah, let this simple act of kindling a fire remind you of your utter dependence on your Lord. If He willed, He could make fire cold and harmless, as He did for Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him). And if He willed, He could turn your very comforts into sources of harm. Reflect on this, and let your heart overflow with gratitude and humility. Every flame you light is a call to remember the One who lit the sun, the stars, and the fire of your own heart with faith. Turn to Him, thank Him, and worship Him alone—for He is the One who gives you fire, and He is the One who will ask you how you used every blessing He bestowed.

📜 Verse 69-73 — Al-Waqi'ah

Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down?
If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful?
And have you seen the fire that you ignite?
Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer?
We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers,
