Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- حَكَمًا: A judge or arbiter who settles disputes with justice.
- مُفَصَّلًا: Detailed, clearly explained, and made distinct—separating truth from falsehood.
- الْمُمْتَرِينَ: Those who doubt or are skeptical.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Messenger, say to these polytheists who call you to accept their false gods as arbiters: "Shall I seek any judge other than Allah?" This is a rhetorical question that strikes at the very heart of logic—for who could be a better judge than the One who created everything, knows everything, and has perfect wisdom? Allah is the One who has sent down to you the Qur'an, fully detailed and clearly explained, containing every ruling needed for guidance, distinguishing truth from falsehood, and laying out the path of righteousness in crystal clarity.
The verse then reveals a profound truth: the People of the Book—the Jews who received the Torah and the Christians who received the Gospel—know with certainty, through the signs and prophecies found in their own scriptures, that this Qur'an is revealed to you from your Lord with the truth. Their scholars recognize it as they recognize their own children, because the previous scriptures bore witness to its coming. This is not a matter of blind faith but of confirmed knowledge.
Therefore, O Messenger, do not be among those who doubt—for the evidence is overwhelming, the proof is clear, and the truth stands firm like a mountain that cannot be shaken.
A Call to Reflection:
This verse invites every seeker of truth to ask themselves: Why would we turn to flawed human judgments when the Creator of the heavens and the earth has spoken? The Qur'an is not a book of ambiguity—it is a detailed constitution for life, addressing every matter with clarity and wisdom. The scholars of earlier scriptures recognized its truth, and so can you. Open your heart, reflect on its verses, and you will find that doubt dissolves in the face of such overwhelming evidence. The Qur'an is a mercy and a light—let it guide you to the straight path, and you will never be lost again.
