Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Hujjah (الْحُجَّةُ): The decisive, conclusive proof or argument.
- Al-Balighah (الْبَالِغَةُ): The one that reaches its utmost perfection—clear, complete, and irrefutable, leaving no room for doubt or excuse.
- Hada (لَهَدَاكُمْ): To guide, direct, or grant success to the truth.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Messenger, say to those who argue against the truth with weak excuses and false justifications: "If your arguments are so flimsy and your pretexts so hollow, then know that to Allah alone belongs the perfect, decisive proof—the argument that cuts through every doubt, silences every objection, and leaves no room for evasion. His proof is complete over all His creation, delivered through His Books and His Messengers, so that no one can claim ignorance or plead innocence on the Day of Judgment."
Then comes the profound truth that addresses their twisted logic: "If Allah had willed, He would have guided all of you together." This means that His will is not subject to your desires or demands. He has willed that some people be guided through their sincere seeking of truth, while others remain astray due to their arrogance and rejection. This does not contradict His justice—rather, it affirms it. For He has given every soul the capacity to choose, sent messengers to clarify the path, and then left the choice to human free will. His will is perfectly aligned with His wisdom: He does not force faith upon anyone, because forced faith has no value. True faith is a choice of the heart, a conviction of the mind, and a submission of the soul.
So let this verse be a source of comfort and certainty for you, dear believer. When you see people turning away from the truth despite its clarity, do not despair. Allah's proof has been established, His message has been delivered, and His justice is perfect. Your duty is only to convey—the guidance itself comes from Him alone. And when you reflect on this, your heart fills with gratitude that Allah, in His infinite mercy, chose you among the guided, opened your chest to Islam, and illuminated your path with the light of faith. Praise Him for this blessing, and let it increase you in humility and devotion, for guidance is not a merit you earned—it is a gift He granted.
