Word Meanings:

They will be made to stand before the Fire, detained and presented to it.
An expression of intense longing and regret: "Oh, would that we were returned [to the worldly life]!"
And we would not deny or reject.
The signs, proofs, and revelations of our Lord.

Explanation of the Verse:

If you could see, O Messenger, these polytheists on the Day of Resurrection, you would witness a sight of utter horror and regret. They will be halted and detained right at the brink of the Hellfire, forced to gaze upon its chains, shackles, and terrifying scenes. At that moment, when the reality of their doom becomes undeniable, they will cry out in desperate longing: "Oh, would that we could be returned to the life of this world! Then we would never deny the signs of our Lord, and we would be among the believers!"

This is not a sincere repentance born of faith, but a plea born of sheer terror. They wish to return only because they have now seen with their own eyes what they once refused to believe. Their words reveal the deepest regret, yet it is a regret that comes too late—after the door of opportunity has closed forever.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, this scene is not meant merely to frighten, but to awaken. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has shown us this glimpse of the Hereafter so that we may seize the opportunity *now*—while we still breathe, while the door of repentance is open, and while our hearts can still turn to Him. The disbelievers on that Day will beg for a second chance, but it will not be granted. You, however, have that second chance *today*. Do not wait until you stand before the Fire to wish you had believed. Let this verse be a gentle yet powerful reminder: return to your Lord now, embrace His signs, and join the ranks of the believers—before the moment when wishes will be of no avail. Allah's mercy is vast, and His door is open; do not delay your return to Him.

📜 Verse 25-29 — Al-An'am

And among them are those who listen to you, but We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And if they should see every sign, they will not believe in it. Even when they come to you arguing with you, those who disbelieve say, "This is not but legends of the former peoples."
And they prevent [others] from him and are [themselves] remote from him. And they do not destroy except themselves, but they perceive [it] not.
If you could but see when they are made to stand before the Fire and will say, "Oh, would that we could be returned [to life on earth] and not deny the signs of our Lord and be among the believers."
But what they concealed before has [now] appeared to them. And even if they were returned, they would return to that which they were forbidden; and indeed, they are liars.
And they say, "There is none but our worldly life, and we will not be resurrected."
