Word Meanings:

(Our proof/argument): The decisive, irrefutable evidence that establishes the truth and silences falsehood.
(We gave it): We granted and bestowed it upon him.
(We raise in degrees): We elevate people in rank and status.
(All-Wise, All-Knowing): Perfect in wisdom and judgment, fully aware of all affairs.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse concludes the magnificent debate that Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham, peace be upon him) had with his people. When he looked at the stars, the moon, and the sun, he used each as a stepping stone to lead his people from the worship of creation to the worship of the Creator. He said, "This is my Lord," then when each celestial body set, he declared, "I do not love those that set" — proving that the true God must be eternal, not subject to change or disappearance. Finally, he proclaimed, "Indeed, I have turned my face toward He who created the heavens and the earth, inclining toward truth, and I am not of those who associate others with Allah."

That proof — which left his people speechless and defeated — was not something Ibrahim invented on his own. It was a gift from Allah, a divine light placed in his heart and mind. Allah says: "And that was Our proof which We gave Ibrahim against his people." This teaches us that true knowledge and wisdom come from Allah alone. When a person sincerely seeks the truth, Allah opens their heart and grants them clarity that no opponent can refute.

Then Allah says: "We raise in degrees whom We will." This is a profound promise — that Allah elevates people not by their wealth, tribe, or social status, but by their knowledge, faith, and sincerity. Some people are raised in this world through wisdom and influence, and in the Hereafter through the highest ranks of Paradise. This should inspire every believer to seek knowledge and righteousness, for Allah honors whom He wills with the noblest elevation.

The verse concludes: "Indeed, your Lord is All-Wise, All-Knowing." He is All-Wise — He places everything in its proper position, giving prophethood and wisdom to those most deserving. He is All-Knowing — He knows who is sincere in their search for truth and who is stubborn in falsehood. This is a comfort to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and to every believer: when you face opposition for the truth, remember that Allah's wisdom is perfect, and His knowledge encompasses everything. He knows your struggle, and He will raise you in degrees just as He raised Ibrahim.

Dear reader, this verse carries a beautiful lesson for you today: whenever you feel overwhelmed by arguments against the truth, or whenever you feel that falsehood is prevailing, remember that Allah has already given His sincere servants the proof that silences all opposition. And if you sincerely seek Him, He will grant you wisdom, elevate your rank, and guide you to the same light that guided His beloved Prophet Ibrahim. The key is sincerity — and the promise is certain.

📜 Verse 81-85 — Al-An'am

And how should I fear what you associate while you do not fear that you have associated with Allah that for which He has not sent down to you any authority? So which of the two parties has more right to security, if you should know?
They who believe and do not mix their belief with injustice - those will have security, and they are [rightly] guided.
And that was Our [conclusive] argument which We gave Abraham against his people. We raise by degrees whom We will. Indeed, your Lord is Wise and Knowing.
And We gave to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - all [of them] We guided. And Noah, We guided before; and among his descendants, David and Solomon and Job and Joseph and Moses and Aaron. Thus do We reward the doers of good.
And Zechariah and John and Jesus and Elias - and all were of the righteous.
