Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- وَهَبْنَا (Wahabna): We granted/bestowed as a gift.
- ذُرِّيَّتِهِ (Dhurriyyatihi): His offspring/descendants — referring here to the progeny of Prophet Nuh (Noah), peace be upon him.
- هَدَيْنَا (Hadayna): We guided — meaning We directed them to the truth and bestowed upon them prophethood and righteousness.
- نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ (Najzi al-Muhsinin): We reward the doers of good — recompensing them with honor, guidance, and elevated ranks.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this noble verse, Allah, the Most High, recounts His immense favors upon His beloved Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), peace be upon him. After Ibrahim supplicated to his Lord for righteous offspring, Allah responded by granting him a son, Ishaq (Isaac), and then a grandson, Ya'qub (Jacob) — both of whom were prophets and leaders of guidance. Allah guided each of them to the straight path, blessing them with prophethood, wisdom, and righteousness.
Then Allah mentions that He had previously guided Nuh (Noah), peace be upon him — who came before Ibrahim — and from Nuh's descendants, Allah raised many more prophets: Dawud (David), his son Sulayman (Solomon), Ayyub (Job), Yusuf (Joseph), Musa (Moses), and his brother Harun (Aaron), peace be upon them all. Each of these noble messengers was guided by Allah to the truth, given wisdom, and entrusted with conveying His message to humanity.
The verse concludes with a profound and universal principle: "And thus do We reward the doers of good." This means that just as Allah honored these prophets for their excellence in faith, patience, and devotion, He likewise rewards every person who strives in goodness — granting them guidance, success, and honor in this life and the Hereafter.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse is a beautiful testament to Allah's boundless generosity and His love for those who excel in goodness. Notice how Allah connects the reward of the greatest prophets to the principle of *ihsan* (excellence in worship and conduct) — a quality accessible to every believer. You do not need to be a prophet to earn Allah's pleasure; you simply need to be sincere, patient, and devoted to Him. When you perfect your prayer, speak truthfully, treat others with kindness, and remain steadfast in trials, you are walking the very path of these noble messengers. And just as Allah honored them, He will honor you — with guidance in your heart, peace in your life, and eternal bliss in Paradise. So let this verse inspire you: goodness is not limited to the elite; it is an open door for every soul that turns to Allah with a pure heart. Strive to be among the *muhsinin*, and trust that Allah's reward is greater than you can ever imagine.
