Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • الَّذِينَ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِمْ (those to whom [messengers] were sent): The nations and communities that received prophets and messengers.
  • الْمُرْسَلِينَ (the messengers): The prophets and messengers whom Allah chose to convey His revelation.

Tafsir (Explanation):

On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will surely question the nations to whom messengers were sent—asking them how they responded to the call of truth: Did they accept it or reject it? Did they obey or disobey? This will be a question of accountability and reproach, a moment when every soul will be confronted with the choices it made. Likewise, Allah will question the messengers themselves about how they delivered the message entrusted to them, and how their peoples answered them. This questioning is not because Allah is unaware—He knows all things—but rather to establish the truth against all creation, to make the matter clear and undeniable, and to manifest His perfect justice. For the messengers, this questioning is a confirmation of their faithful delivery; for the nations, it is a decisive proof of their responsibility.

This verse carries a profound reminder: every one of us will stand before Allah and be asked about the guidance that reached us. The messengers did their part with utmost sincerity and patience; the question now is—what is our part? How do we respond to the message of the Qur'an and the Sunnah that has reached us today? Will we be among those who listened and obeyed, or among those who turned away?

Dear reader, this is not a distant event—it is as certain as the dawn after the night. The One who will ask those nations and those messengers is the same Lord who is asking you now, through His Book and His guidance: What have you done with the truth that has come to you? The door of repentance is open, the path of return is clear, and the mercy of Allah is vaster than your sins. Do not wait until the Day when questions will be asked and answers will no longer avail. Return to your Lord today, embrace His guidance, and let the message of the messengers find in you a heart that listens and a soul that obeys. For the happiest of people are those who answer the call of their Lord in this life, so that they may be among the successful in the next.

📜 Verse 4-8 — Al-A'raf

And how many cities have We destroyed, and Our punishment came to them at night or while they were sleeping at noon.
And their declaration when Our punishment came to them was only that they said, "Indeed, we were wrongdoers!"
Then We will surely question those to whom [a message] was sent, and We will surely question the messengers.
Then We will surely relate [their deeds] to them with knowledge, and We were not [at all] absent.
And the weighing [of deeds] that Day will be the truth. So those whose scales are heavy - it is they who will be the successful.
