Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Kallā (كَلَّا): A stern repudiation — meaning "No indeed!" or "Absolutely not!" It is a strong denial that rejects the false hope of escape.
- Wazar (وَزَر): A refuge, shelter, or fortress — a place of protection where one can flee for safety and security.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this verse, Allah (Glorified be He) shatters the illusion that any human being can escape His judgment on the Day of Resurrection. The disbeliever, overwhelmed by terror and regret, desperately wishes to run away — to find any hiding place, any sanctuary, any stronghold that might shield him from the consequences of his deeds. But Allah declares with absolute finality: "No indeed! There is no refuge!"
On that Day, every false hope of escape is cut off. No mountain cave can conceal you, no wealth can ransom you, no powerful ally can intercede for you without His permission, and no earthly authority can offer you protection. The sinner who spent his life running from the truth will find that there is nowhere left to run. Every path of escape is sealed, every door of evasion is locked.
The only destination that remains is Allah Himself — the sole Judge and Sovereign. All of creation, from the first to the last, will be gathered before Him, and each soul will be recompensed with absolute justice for what it earned. There is no negotiation, no escape route, and no intermediary shield on that Day except His mercy.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse is not meant to terrify you into despair — it is a wake-up call filled with divine mercy. Allah is telling you now, while you still have time, that there is no refuge from Him *except in Him*. The door of repentance is open today, but it will be sealed tomorrow. Run to Allah now through sincere repentance, good deeds, and reliance upon His mercy — for the only true refuge in this life and the next is the shelter of His forgiveness. Do not wait until the Day when every escape route is closed and you stand helpless before your Lord. Today, the way is open; tomorrow, it will be too late.
