Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Hāfirah (الحافرة): This refers to the first state or the beginning of a matter. In this context, it means returning to life on earth after death, back to the original state of being alive.
Tafsir (Explanation):
These are the words of those who deny the resurrection — the disbelievers who, in their arrogance and mockery, question the very idea of being brought back to life. They say: "Shall we truly be returned to our former state? Shall we be brought back to life after we have died and our bones have decayed into dust?" They consider this return to be something impossible, foolish, and utterly false. Their words are not a sincere inquiry seeking truth, but rather a sarcastic rejection of the Day of Judgment, spoken by hearts that are blind and eyes that refuse to see the signs of Allah's power all around them.
Yet, in their very question lies the answer. For the One who created them from nothing in the first place — from a drop of fluid, then a clinging clot, then a lump of flesh — is certainly able to recreate them. The One who brings forth the green plant from dry, lifeless earth is certainly able to bring the dead forth from their graves. Their denial does not change the reality: the resurrection is true, and every soul shall return to its Lord to be held accountable for what it did in this life.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder this: these disbelievers found it strange that they could be returned to life after death. But is it any stranger than the fact that they were created from nothing in the first place? Every breath you take, every heartbeat, every sunrise and sunset — all of these are constant reminders that Allah, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, is fully capable of bringing you back after death. Do not be like those who mock the truth. Instead, let the certainty of the resurrection transform your life. Let it be the reason you rush to good deeds, the reason you guard your tongue, the reason you treat others with kindness, and the reason you turn to Allah in repentance before it is too late. For on that Day, every soul will find exactly what it sent forth — and Allah does not break His promise.
