Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • "Aghtasha" (أَغْطَشَ): He made it dark or gloomy.
  • "Laylaha" (لَيْلَهَا): Its night, referring to the night of the heavens/earth.
  • "Duhaha" (ضُحَاهَا): Its forenoon or bright daylight, referring to the light of the sun that spreads during the day.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah draws our attention to His perfect creation of the heavens, reminding us of His infinite power. After mentioning how He raised the sky and perfected its structure, He says: "And He made its night dark, and brought out its forenoon light."

This means that Allah, the Almighty, caused the night of the heavens to be dark and obscure — a darkness that covers the earth when the sun sets, bringing tranquility and rest to all creatures. Then, He brought forth the bright daylight — the radiant forenoon light — when the sun rises, dispelling that darkness and filling the world with warmth, clarity, and life. The alternation of night and day is not a random occurrence; it is a precise, divine system that sustains life on Earth.

This verse is a profound reminder of Allah's absolute control over the universe. He is the One who flips the switch of darkness and light, day and night, with perfect order. If He can create this magnificent balance in the heavens and the earth, then His power to resurrect you after death is even more certain. The One who manages the vast cosmos with such precision is certainly capable of bringing you back to life for the Day of Judgment.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, look around you — the gentle darkness of the night that calms your heart, and the bright morning that energizes your day. These are not coincidences; they are signs from your Lord, calling you to recognize His greatness. When you witness the sun rising each morning, remember that the same Allah who brings light after darkness is the One who will bring you forth from your grave. Let this verse fill your heart with hope and awe. Do not live heedless of your Creator — He has made all of this for your benefit, so that you may know Him, worship Him, and prepare for the meeting with Him. The night and day are not just natural phenomena; they are messages of mercy and power from the Most Merciful. Embrace them as reminders, and let them strengthen your faith and your connection to your Lord.
