Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Anbatnā (أَنبَتْنَا): We caused to grow and sprout forth from the earth.
  • Fīhā (فِيهَا): In it — referring to the earth/ground that was split open by the rain.
  • Ḥabbā (حَبًّا): Grain — the staple seeds and kernels that serve as food, such as wheat, barley, corn, and similar crops.

Explanation of the Verse:

After mentioning how water is poured upon the earth in abundance, Allah continues His profound reminder of His blessings by saying: "Then We caused to grow therein grain." This refers to the various types of grains that emerge from the soil after it has been softened and nourished by rain — wheat, barley, corn, rice, and countless other seeds that form the very foundation of human sustenance. These grains are not merely plants; they are the lifeblood of civilizations, the staple foods upon which bodies are built, strength is gained, and daily survival depends. The splitting of the earth to bring forth these provisions is a miracle of divine power that occurs before our eyes every single season, yet how often do we pause to reflect upon it?

The verse invites every human being to look at the plate of food before them and trace it back to its origin: the rain that fell, the earth that opened, and the Lord who commanded it all to happen. This is not a random act of nature — it is a deliberate, merciful arrangement by the Creator who knows exactly what His creation needs to live and thrive.

A Call to Reflection and Gratitude:

Dear reader, when you hold a piece of bread in your hand, do you realize that you are holding a miracle? That grain was once a tiny seed buried in darkness, and through the mercy of Allah, it broke through the soil, drank from the rain, and grew into the nourishment that now sustains your very life. This is not merely agriculture — this is a sign of Allah's boundless love for His servants. He could have made food scarce and difficult to obtain, but instead He made it abundant, diverse, and accessible.

Let this verse awaken in your heart a deep sense of gratitude. When you eat your daily meal, remember the One who provided it, and let that remembrance transform your meal into an act of worship. Say "Alhamdulillah" (all praise is due to Allah) with a heart that truly understands: every grain you consume is a gift from the Most Merciful, calling you to draw closer to Him. And if He provides for your body so generously, how much more does He desire to provide for your soul through guidance and faith? Turn to Him, trust in Him, and you will find that His provisions — both physical and spiritual — never cease to amaze.
