Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • عَنْهَا (ʿanhā): "From it" — referring to the Hellfire (al-Jaḥīm) mentioned in the preceding verse.
  • بِغَائِبِينَ (bi-ghāʾibīn): "Absent" or "gone away" — meaning they will never be removed, absent, or distanced from it.

Explanation of the Verse:

After describing the wicked (al-fujjār) as being cast into the blazing Fire on the Day of Recompense, Allah clarifies their eternal state: "And they will not be absent from it." This means they will never leave the Fire, nor will they be granted any respite, escape, or death to relieve their suffering. They are not merely present for a time — they are permanently bound to it, with no exit and no end. Some scholars have also noted that the pronoun "it" (hā) could refer to the Day of Judgment itself, emphasizing that the resurrection is an absolute certainty from which no one can hide or flee. Either way, the verse establishes two profound truths: the reality of the Hereafter and the everlasting punishment for those who persist in disbelief and transgression.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

This verse is a powerful reminder that our actions in this fleeting world carry eternal consequences. The wicked may imagine they can escape accountability, but Allah assures us that no one can hide from His justice. Yet, the very same verse that warns of eternal punishment also invites us to turn to Allah’s infinite mercy before it is too late. The door of repentance is open right now — in this life, before the Day when no escape will be possible. Let this truth awaken your heart: you are not created for the Fire, but for Paradise. The One who warns you of the Fire is the same One who calls you to His forgiveness and love. Respond to His call today, and you will never have to fear being "absent from" the Fire — for you will instead be among those who are forever present in His eternal mercy.

📜 Verse 14-18 — Al-Infitar

And indeed, the wicked will be in Hellfire.
They will [enter to] burn therein on the Day of Recompense,
And never therefrom will they be absent.
And what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?
Then, what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?
