Explanation of the Verse:
When Prophet Nūḥ (peace be upon him) saw the waves engulfing everything, and his own son—who had stubbornly refused to believe and join the believers—was drowning before his eyes, his fatherly compassion overwhelmed him. He turned to his Lord in desperate supplication, saying: "My Lord, indeed my son is from my family, and You have promised me to save my family. Your promise is the absolute truth—there is no doubt in it—and You are the Most Just of all judges, so how can Your promise and Your justice be reconciled with what I am witnessing?"
Nūḥ was not questioning Allah’s justice, nor was he objecting to His decree. Rather, he was seeking clarification with the utmost respect and submission, hoping that perhaps his son might still be included in the divine mercy. He knew that Allah’s promise is never broken, but he also understood that the promise was conditional upon faith—and his son had rejected the call. This was a moment of profound human emotion intertwined with unwavering trust in Allah’s wisdom.
The verse teaches us a beautiful lesson: even the greatest prophets experienced moments of intense personal grief, yet they never lost their reverence for Allah. Nūḥ’s words reflect a heart that combined deep love for his child with complete submission to his Creator. He acknowledged Allah as "the Most Just of judges," affirming that whatever Allah decides is inherently right, even if human understanding cannot fully grasp it.
A Da‘wah Reflection:
This scene from the life of Prophet Nūḥ is a powerful reminder for every believer. It shows us that our love for our families must never override our commitment to Allah’s commands. Nūḥ’s son was dear to him, but when the command came, the prophet did not hesitate to board the Ark without him. Yet, in his humanity, he still pleaded for him—demonstrating that Islam does not forbid compassion; it merely places it within the framework of divine will.
How often do we find ourselves torn between our desires and Allah’s decree? This verse reassures us that turning to Allah in every situation—whether joyful or painful—is the mark of true faith. When we face trials, we should follow Nūḥ’s example: call upon your Lord with sincerity, acknowledge His perfect justice, and trust that His wisdom surpasses all understanding. Allah loves those who turn to Him, and He never disappoints those who place their hope in Him. Let this story inspire you to strengthen your connection with Allah, knowing that He is always near, always listening, and always just.
