Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Khizyi (خِزْيِ): Disgrace, humiliation, and shame.
- Yawmi'idhin (يَوْمِئِذٍ): That day — the day of punishment and destruction that befell the people of Thamud.
Explanation of the Verse:
When Our command came to destroy the people of Thamud — those who had rejected the message of their prophet Salih and persisted in their arrogance and disbelief — We saved Salih and the believers who stood with him. This salvation was not earned by their own strength or planning; it was a pure mercy from Us. We also protected them from the disgrace and humiliation of that terrible day, a day when the sky darkened, the earth trembled, and the mighty were brought low. While the disbelievers were seized by a devastating blast that left them fallen in their homes, the believers were lifted to safety, untouched by the horror around them.
Indeed, your Lord — O Messenger — is the All-Strong, the All-Mighty. His strength knows no limit, and His might cannot be challenged. It is from His very power and majesty that He destroyed the tyrannical nations who defied Him, and it is from His mercy that He rescued His prophets and their followers. No force on earth can overcome Him, and no plan can thwart His decree.
A Call to Reflection:
This verse carries a timeless lesson for every soul: the victory of truth over falsehood is guaranteed by Allah Himself. When you stand firm upon faith, even when you are few and the world seems against you, Allah's mercy surrounds you. He does not abandon those who trust in Him. Just as He saved Salih and his companions from the depths of destruction, He can save you from every trial, every hardship, and every humiliation — in this life and the next. So hold fast to your faith, for the Strong and Mighty One is your Protector, and His mercy is greater than any calamity you may face. Let this be a source of hope and courage: the end is always for the righteous, and the disgrace is always for those who turn away from the truth.
