Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Nakirahum" (نَكِرَهُمْ): He found them strange and unfamiliar, sensing something unusual about them.
  • "Awjasa" (أَوْجَسَ): He concealed within himself, keeping it hidden.
  • "Kheefah" (خِيفَةً): Fear or apprehension.

Tafsir (Explanation):

When Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) welcomed his noble guests—who were angels sent by Allah in human form—he hastened to honor them by preparing a roasted calf. Yet, when he placed the food before them, he noticed that their hands did not reach out to eat from it. This was an extraordinary sight, for guests customarily partake of what is offered to them. Ibrahim found this deeply strange and unsettling, and a quiet fear crept into his heart. He concealed this apprehension, not wishing to offend his guests, but his unease was evident in his demeanor.

The angels, perceiving his inner state, immediately reassured him: "Do not fear, O Ibrahim! We are not ordinary men, nor have we come with any harm toward you. We are angels sent by your Lord, dispatched to the people of Lut (Lot) to bring about their destruction for their persistent wickedness and transgression."

This moment carries profound lessons for the believer. First, it highlights the noble character of Prophet Ibrahim—his generosity, hospitality, and attentiveness to his guests, even in times of uncertainty. Second, it reminds us that fear of the unknown is natural, but true tranquility comes from placing trust in Allah, who controls all affairs. Third, it demonstrates that Allah's messengers and angels bring only what is just and wise, and that His punishment descends upon those who persist in evil, while His mercy envelops His righteous servants.

Reflect, dear reader, on how Allah calmed the heart of His beloved Prophet with a single sentence of reassurance. If you ever find yourself anxious or afraid, remember that Allah is always near, and His angels are ever ready to support the believers. Turn to Him in supplication, for He is the One who removes fear and grants peace to the hearts of those who trust in Him. And let this story inspire you to embody generosity and kindness, for hospitality is a hallmark of faith, and Allah loves those who care for others.
